3rd International Conference on Middle East and Africa

Embedded Crisis and Reconstruction: Governance in the Middle East and Africa within the Global Order

Call for Papers

The International Conference on Middle East and Africa aims to provide an academic platform for scholars currently engaged in Middle Eastern and African studies in Taiwan, with the purpose of broadening perspectives and deepening research. Past conferences were successfully held at National Chengchi University in 2024 and National Quemoy University in 2025 with fruitful results.

The Third International Conference on Middle East and Africa, to be hosted by the Department of Political Science and Law, National University of Kaohsiung, in 2026, is themed: “Embedded Crisis and Reconstruction: Governance in the Middle East and Africa within the Global Order.”

This theme addresses the embedded crises and processes of reconstruction faced by the Middle East and Africa. These crises include not only economic dimensions such as tariffs initiated by the Trump administration, but also geopolitical rivalries between the U.S. and China in the Middle East and Africa. Moreover, issues highlighted in UN reports—such as Africa’s food insecurity, humanitarian crises amid political conflicts, challenges of post-conflict reconstruction, questions of governmental legitimacy, and institutional rebuilding—are of central concern. In addition, the conference seeks to explore the historical and cultural dimensions of governance and cooperation, including how Islamic communities may collaborate in global affairs in the future.

We warmly welcome scholars to contribute papers addressing issues related to the Middle East and Africa. Submissions may include full research papers, research notes, methodological assessments, and other academic contributions that offer forward-looking insights into Middle Eastern and African studies.
